"For one day I was lucky enough to have as guide Gary Reed... the perfect Wall expert... wears the traditional Northumbrian kilt, a plaid of black and white that gives an idea of the close connections to the Border Scots"
If you're really interested in knowing what Hadrian's Wall and the surrounding landscape is all about, there's one person whose company you may well appreciate - Gary Reed.
Gary is not just your normal 'prevents you from getting lost' sort of Guide, he is renowned for his sometimes unusual and it could be said, unorthadox methods of bringing the history and heritage to life. If he had to give himself a label, he would describe himself as an 'Edutainer' - yes, the opportunity to learn something and be entertained at the same time. It's probably for reasons such as this, that Gary pops up every now and again on TV not just in the UK, but as far flung as Australia, China and Brazil.
As you might expect, Gary is not always around as much as we might like him to be, but when he is, he's passionate about our landscape and the legacy of our Roman past. His diary fills fast, so it's a case of 'first come, first served'.
Our Guided Walks generally focus on the central area of Hadrian's Wall, which can be any part of the 30-mile section between Lanercost and Chollerford. This can also include a slight detour from the Hadrian's Wall Path, in order to visit Vindolanda (the only ongoing archaeological dig site in the area).
