Can I bring my dog? - Unfortunately, very few accommodations accept dogs, to the extent that the only accommodation option we have in the Newcastle area is a a 'V Denarii' level one that we use and they're not keen on taking anything bigger than a lap dog. Elsewhere along the line of the Trail, there are accommodations that accept dogs, however they tend to be at the 'IV Denarii' level and are obviously subject to availability.
If you are considering walking the full length of the Trail, you should bear in mind that much of the path between Heddon-on-the-Wall and Wallsend is on a hard surface and therefore can be very tough on dogs' paws, compared to the softer ground to the west. This being the case, many walking with a dog, choose not to walk the 14-mile section of the Trail beyond Heddon towards Wallsend (which is actually a combination of a walking and cycling route along the riverside and not on the line of the Wall itself).
Bearing these points in mind, the best that we can offer for those choosing to bring their dogs, are two options. One is a 'Denarii Mix' of IV / V Denarii level on a B&B option, with a 'Dog Supplement' of £6 per day - to cover the extra baggage to be moved. For those accommodations that may charge for a dog (some don't), clients just pay that charge directly to the accommodation provider.
The other choice is the camping option on an 'Adventure Trek'. For more information on this particular option, there is a separate website and there is more detail specifically on that website's FAQ section on 'Dogs' - this link will take you off this website to the page concerned - www.hadrianswalladventure.co.uk/faq-dogs
