We have a choice of two Four Day Self-Guided Walks – the ‘Standard’ or the ‘3 Base’.
The ‘Standard Four Day Self-Guided Walk’ - a linear walk that involves walking set distances between accommodations
The ‘3 Base Four Day Self-Guided Walk’ – a walk that makes use of base locations, allowing for flexibility in both the route and the daily distance being covered
It is possible to complete the whole 84 miles (135kms) of the National Trail in just four days; however, this is only an option for experienced long-distance walkers. To emphasise this further, this entails covering the equivalent of a marathon’s distance everyday for four days – two days of which are predominantly on a hard surface and the other two over generally soft and undulating ground.
More commonly, those completing a Four Day Walk will have chosen between a route that takes in just the central section of the National Trail (where the Wall itself is most prominent) or will be combining the trail and other places of interest (eg Corbridge and Lanercost).
Both the ‘Standard’ and the ‘3 Base’ Four Day Self-Guided Walks can be arranged to take in either the whole of the Hadrian’s Wall Path National Trail, or just part of it.
